This year is probably more important to qualify for your favorite airlines Elite Status more than ever.
 With major airlines charging up to $50 for the second bag and $15 more for the first bag, with your Elite Status, if you still check two bags up to 50lbs each or less and you pay no extra bag fees for the first two bags. Plus, if you're traveling with other travelers on the same
record, in most cases, you don't have to pay for their bags either. Living in Dallas, I
needed to find a cheap destination to fly to without breaking the bank. At the
end of October my wife and I, who also needs about 3,000 air miles, flew to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Instead of flying nonstop, we
made a connection
through Miami. This gave us extra air miles and got us both back to
Platinum levels for the year 2009.
Here are a few fun destinations where we are seeing some great buys, and for
the price per mile, it may be worth the trip.

The best option is to find your best and farthest destination and make a
connection, unless you don't need the extra miles. We like San Juan, we like
Honolulu, we like select European cities and Sydney is just too darn good.
