This could force other major airlines such as American, AirTran, Alaska, US Airways, Frontier and others will be forced to match this offer.

When United and Continental finally merge, United may keep Continental's credit card/baggage program going. With the (soon to be) #1 and #2 largest airlines in the world offering this promotion, there will be a lot of pressure on the others airlines. Don't be surprise if others carriers (Airtran, American, U.S. Airways, etc.) will soon follow suit with a program of their own.
