State Of Maryland Takes On Car Rental Companies Over Highway Robbery
Refueling Fees Of Up To $7.99 A Gallon.
Car rental refueling fees have always been a thorn in anybody's side if you
return your car with an empty tank. Today, there are many car rental companies
at airports charging $7.
99 a gallon if you return your car with less than a full
tank of gas.
On July 1, 2008, the eight major car rental companies in Maryland agreed to
charge customers returning cars no more than 42% over the local pump price.
It should be noted that at many airports across America, Enterprise (the
largest USA car rental company and owner of National and Alamo) has always
charged less to refuel car rentals. Before the new fees went into effect last
week, Enterprise's refueling fee was $5.20 a gallon while others were charging
$7.99 a gallon.
These new rules are not great, but they are good. Just remember that it is
always better to refuel yourself to avoid these highway robbery surcharges.
We do like the new policy that Hertz has taken upon themselves to put in
place. To check out this related story, please click
