Today, we were poking around at Bestfares.com, and it is amazing how we are finding cheap airfares for late summer and fall, but also for peak summer travel.

The trick in June, July, and August will be flexibility. You will find fewer cheap seats, and higher airfares on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays; but on select weekends, the cheap seats may be there.

If you have never used our flexible date travel calendar on our homepage search engine, you need to try it out. We continue to update this calendar to help you find the Bestfares. Sometimes by just making a one day adjustment to your selected travel dates, you could save hundreds of dollars.

The new official travel period for summer has kicked off, and the news is not all that bright if you need to travel in peak July.  Airfares across the USA, Mexico, Caribbean, and especially, Europe will be sky-high!  You’re going to need to be flexible, but you should also look at nearby airports. By traveling into an airport that is within a short drive of your original destination could lead to big savings.

As a rule of thumb traveling on Tuesdays and Wednesdays will usually be the cheapest days, but on some routes we are finding cheap airfares available seven days a week. Use our flexible date calendar on our homepage booking engine to help you locate your cheapest days to travel.

For example, Seattle to Anchorage is only $240 roundtrip for travel in June thru Oct 15, 2013.  We found this airfare available not only on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but just about every day of the week, including July travel.  

Another example of how being flexible saves you money is traveling from Dallas to Boston in July. We found an airfare as low as $279 roundtrip. We are finding this price available every day of the week during July. But, if you have travel plans to Hartford, the cheapest roundtrip airfare is $499, and a whopping $549 on weekends when flying from Dallas to Providence.

However, if you choose to fly into Boston and then take the hour drive over to Providence or Hartford; a family of four could save over $1,000 roundtrip by flying into a nearby airport like Boston.

Europe airfares in July are at the "refinance your home" levels, but the good news is we are seeing price drops of $300 to $500 roundtrip starting August 22, 2013.
