Lufthansa has initiated commercial service of the new Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental Jumbo jet along the inaugural route of Frankfurt (FRA) to Washington, D.C.’s Dulles International Airport (IAD).

The German carrier's newest flagship aircraft will fly between the two cities initially six days a week (excluding Tuesdays), and will increase capacity on this route by 6.3 percent. Lufthansa’s 747-8 Intercontinental has 362 seats in a three-class configuration (eight in First Class, 92 in Business Class and 262 in Economy Class). Business Class seats are arranged in the form of a “V,” with two neighboring seats are angled towards one another along a central axis. This way, passengers can sit or lie facing the direction of travel, while having almost double the distance between the two seats at shoulder level. As a bed, the seat can stretch out to 6’6” in length.
