Folks we are returning to price levels we thought we would never see again on some markets.
Southwest Airlines, AirTran, Frontier, and Virgin America are providing great fall airfares, but Spirit Airlines takes the trophy, especially if you can fly midweek during the month of September.
To Las Vegas, we have got the 'Lucky 7's' sale going on from San Diego, Los Angeles or Phoenix / Mesa for only $77 roundtrip, and that includes all government taxes.
From Chicago you can fly to Denver, Detroit, Minneapolis or Myrtle Beach for only $77 roundtrip.
Dallas is having a fire sale, not only can you fly to Phoenix (Mesa), Denver or Myrtle Beach for about $77 roundtrip, but for only $92 roundtrip you can fly to Portland (OR), Boston, San Diego, Baltimore and Tampa, Florida.
We are finding these cheap airfares with Spirit Airlines. However, Spirit does charge for advanced seat assignments, and if you do choose to check a bag, you had better make sure it is 40 pounds or less, unless you want to face a hefty overage charge.
Spirit also charges you $30 for carry-on bags that do not fit underneath your seat, but only if you pre-pay. If you don't pre-pay for that overhead bin carry-on could end up costing you $45, and starting in November $100 at the gate.
We recommend that if you are traveling as a couple; rather than paying $30 each for two carry-on's, combine your clothes and just check one bag for $30, but you must keep it under 40 pounds to avoid any additional fees.
While Spirit is fee heavy, they still look great and much cheaper on some routes by as much as $200 less than other airlines. Just be aware of all their fees before you book, and if you do book with Spirit, make sure you pre-pay you baggage fees in advance and save a bundle.
Insider Travel Secret: If you are going to pre pay for your seat on Spirit, you may want to upgrade yourself to their first class type seat called the 'Big Seat' with an six extra inches of leg room for as little as $35 one-way. That can make a world of difference to folks over six feet tall. Plus, the last time we checked they had a two drink special promotion, instead of paying $14 for two drinks on most airlines; Spirit lets you get two adult mixed drinks for about $11!
