Southwest Airlines Goes Cashless. Your Money Is No Good Here. How Many Airlines Are Cashless?

Last Updated: September 03, 2008

On September 9, 2008, your green backs and coins will no longer be good on Southwest Airlines to purchase cocktails, beer, wine or their $3 energy drinks. Southwest Airlines on this date will only except credit cards or debit cards.

On August 5, 2008, Alaska Airlines went cashless.

Other airlines that have gone cashless include: Spirit Airlines, Frontier Airlines, AirTran, Jetblue, Virgin America, Midwest Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Sun Country.

American Airlines and Delta Airlines still accept both cash and credit cards.

US Airways, Continental Airlines, United Airlines and Northwest airlines, for domestic flights, only take cash.

US Airways is currently researching and testing onboard credit card machines. However, it takes up to 12 weeks to receive these onboard credit card machines. We do expect US Airways to go cashless the first quarter of 2009.

P.S. One final note for all you entrepreneur's! With all the new airline fees, the next time you're flying and the passengers around you have cash only, you could charge them a 10% "Passengers Who Have Money Only" service fee! Just a thought!

The Question Of The Day: Do you know which U.S. airline went cashless first and in what year? Please, click here for the answer.
